Helping your baby sleep safe and sound…
11-17th March 2024 marks The Lullaby Trust’s annual Safer Sleep Awareness week. Safer sleep advice gives simple steps on how you can sleep your baby to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), commonly known as cot death.
What can you do to ensure your baby sleeps safely?
Have your baby in the same room as you until 6 months both day and night.
Dress them in a well fitting sleeping bag, with the appropriate tog rating for the time of year.
Put them to sleep on their back with their feet at the end of the cot.
Use a firm, flat mattress with a waterproof cover.
Bedroom temperature of between 16-20 degrees.
Keep their cot clear of toys, bumpers and loose bedding.
Safe Swaddling
Use thin materials and do not swaddle too tight.
Check the baby’s temperature to ensure they do not get too hot.
Do not swaddle above the shoulders
Never put a swaddled baby to sleep on their front.
